'Ironman' set to raise cash for mobility scooters

A man is hoping to raise money to pay for two mobility scooters when he finishes an impressive number of endurance events this year.

Neill Crump decided to try and complete 20 events in a year to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Worcester News reports. His father died from the illness 20 years ago.

After having completed 19 events so far this year, including long-distance running and off-road cycling, the 37-year-old is eyeing his final challenge: the Beach2Battleship Ironman Triathlon, held in North Carolina, US.

There he will try to complete a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.

Mr Crump's 20:20 challenge is aiming to raise £3,000 to pay for two mobility scooters.

"It is some feat as nine months ago, I considered a cigarette and more than a few pints an essential part of my exercise regime," he told the newspaper.

According to Mr Crump's JustGiving page, he decided to cut back on his drinking and smoking in preparation for his first triathlon at Blenheim last year. After visiting his doctor for a check-up, his GP said: "I am so very glad you came because you have given me and you the opportunity to save your life."ADNFCR-2913-ID-800234029-ADNFCR
